CORE PURPOSE FOUNDER

Camelia Petrus

Camelia Petrus has committed more than 20 years to studying, teaching, and advocating the benefits of cultivating self-awareness and developing the emotional intelligence necessary to navigate life with responsibility, accountability and excellence in leadership.

As other fellow graduate students at Massey University Auckland, PGDip Industrial/Organisational (I/O) Psychology, I am dedicated to helping organisations achieve a positive emotional climate at work which leads to improved individual outcomes such as dedication, confidence, motivation, resilience, and emotional wellbeing.
Paying attention to the emotional climate at work leads to the improvement of performance, goal achievement, communication, customer/client service, lower turnover, and lower sickness absence.
Working with leaders on the enhancement of their role’s required key competences and the development of their emotional intelligence skills, is rewording. Those skills are fundamental to the successful creation and maintenance of a positive emotional climate at work.

I am the founder of Core Purpose Ltd. which was born from a sense of joy and reward, coming from the profound and lasting outcomes generated by the projects I have delivered to organisations in NZ in the past few years, as well as from a strong drive to make a positive, meaningful impact on organisations and people’s working lives.

CORE PURPOSE - WHY DOES IT MATTER

When asked what they really want, most people say, “I want to be happy”, regardless of their social status or roles they have in their personal or professional life.

While we all know that “happiness” is a state of mind, a pleasant emotion to experience, the mechanisms by which we achieve that are different from one person to another. Their definition of happiness may differ, too.

A common goal found in people engaged in the "pursuit of happiness", is meaning. They want their life to make more sense. Yet, many have not defined what that means for them. As long as meaning remains as simply an abstract concept in their minds and hearts, they remain unfulfilled.

People in this state commonly encounter such symptoms (to varying degrees) as dissatisfaction with self, lack of joy, lack of direction, uncertainty, fear, loneliness, low self-esteem, low self-confidence. Others might even experience depression, anxiety, substance abuse, self-harm, etc.

Action, as in any pursuit in life, starts with awareness. Defining one's purpose, and applying this to the totality of one's life, including talents, knowledge, skills, and curiosity, is the key to experiencing meaning.

PURPOSE - BEHIND THE SCENES

Everything has a purpose - even objects. A clock’s purpose is to indicate time. A book’s purpose can be to share knowledge, or stories.

“Organisationally speaking”, people would rather join a purpose (with a company) rather than a company with a purpose.

My purpose (Camelia – the founder of Core Purpose) is to ‘enable’, I guess, to act as a catalyst for achievement for individuals and organisations. I am applying science and logical sense to help organisation and individuals reach the optimum level of human functioning. I like working with leaders who are choosing to advance, to grow, to become the best they can be. They learn skills which were never taught in schools, including finding their purpose, their core strengths, and resources to progress or to cope with challenging situations.

Bridging that gap, no matter how small, brings meaning into my life BECAUSE it serves my purpose.

Symptoms for those experiencing meaning in life are satisfaction, joy, confidence, creativity, harmony, resilience, strength, agility, compassion, love, gratitude, clarity, certainty, focus, determination, and happiness, just to name a few – and overall, living a life worth living.

The Core Purpose’s core purpose is to challenge the way senior executives think about learning and development investments, especially in their leaders. The context is crucial, and leaders need to be equipped with skills to continuously empower the employees with value and motivation, to create and maintain a healthy work- life balance, an inspiring work environment that encourages creativity, productivity, and enjoyment. If the leadership input is not relevant, meaningful, or consistent, people soon revert to old ways of doing things, and company performance doesn’t improve.

Talk to us today. We are here to listen.
